Evelyn Jay Excellence in Education Award

recognizing exceptional TUSD K-3 educators who inspire a lifelong love of reading and books

Evelyn Jay was a beloved Tucson educator whose career of over 50 years included work at nine different schools, touching the minds and lives of thousands of young readers. To celebrate Evelyn Jay’s dedication and passion for teaching reading skills to young learners, EEF and Bud Jay established the annual Evelyn Jay Excellence in Education Award in 2004.

Each spring, three educators working with TUSD students in grades K-3 are recognized for their exceptional success with young readers. Three cash awards totaling $1,500 are awarded ($1,000 as the top award, with two additional awards of $250 each).
